The Signalman and The Man with the Twisted LipOriginally stories were sung or mouth and handed d sustain through word ofmouth from one soul to another. There were thousands of customs dutyalstories all over the world, from King Arthur and his knights of theround instrument panel in Britain to Hercules and the Gods on Mount Olympus inGreece.In the middle ages this was how stories were told, these stories weresometimes shown as plays, which many people could pay to watch. Theseplays were based on love, warfare and religion and were very popular witheveryone. Some mystery plays were based on bible stories and shownthroughout Europe. Others were based on the courtly love traditionwhere women were worshipped like Gods. In contrast other stories wereshown as having the damoiselle in distress such as Robin Hood, withknights and a gigantic battle of good versus evil. Some even took themyths and legends and included them in their stories this could engenderbeen where princesses were sav ed from a beast such as a flying lizard or asmall boy performing the colossal proceeding of defeating a giant.The SignalmanBy Charles DickensThe setting is a railway filiation at the bottom of a steep cutting, wherethe sunlight barely penetrated. It was a dark, dank, gloomy anddepressing place near a tunnel with a wild danger light at itsentrance.
